Queijo De Pao is a Brazilian cheesy bread and is also known as pão de queijo. It is a very popular snack in Brazil, and it’s gluten free.
It is made with tapioca flour instead of wheat flour thereby making it more suitable for people with celiac disease, have certain digestive issues, or who have a gluten allergy.
The origin of this delicious bread is believed to have been originated from the African slaves who worked in the mines and plantations of Minas Gerais sometime in the 18th century. They used cassava root, also known as manioc or yuca, to make flour and cheese from the milk of their cows.
They mixed these ingredients to make a simple, yet filling bread that would sustain them during the hard labor they endured. The recipe spread throughout Brazil over time, and became a national treat.
There are a few different ways you can make this recipe, and you can even make these into Brazilian cheese balls.
